Why did Raven stop offering Google SERPs?
It’s important to Raven and many of our clients that we continue to provide SEO, PPC, social media tools, content and analytics. We would have lost access to the AdWords API if we had continued to provide Google rankings after Jan. 2, 2013. It was a tough choice for us, and one that we know resulted in difficulties for customers who have relied on us for Google rankings for more than six years. However, this decision aligns Raven software with the direction its co-founders have long believed the Internet marketing industry is going – away from individual ranking results as the most important metric and towards campaign performance metrics including traffic, conversions and goals. We will continue to innovate other ways for SEOs to measure the success of their campaigns.
Will Raven have any rankings?
What does Raven think is the future of SERPs?
We have provided Google SERPs since 2005. Rankings have become increasingly difficult to measure because of geolocation, prior search history, social signals and more. No doubt Google will continue evolving search signals, which will make them harder and harder to measure.
The future of SERPs is less reliability and less scalability. Those factors mean higher costs for software companies and their customers.
How do I get my SERP data out of Raven?
The ability to export your SERPs ended at 5 p.m. PST on Jan. 2, 2013. Please email support@raventools.com support@raventools.com if you have any questions.
What other companies do you recommend for SERP data?
We recommend Authority Labs and Advanced Web Rankings. You cannot import your Google SERPs into Raven.
Will I be able to import rankings?
No. Raven has dropped the SERP Tracker from our platform.
When did Raven turn off rankings?
Rankings were removed at 5 p.m. PST on Jan. 2, 2013.
Why did you not fight Google?
There was nothing to fight. Raven is not being singled out by Google, which is simply enforcing the requirements for its AdWords API Terms of Service. We negotiated as much time as possible to make this change.
Is this happening to other software companies?
It is our understanding that other companies are having similar issues. You will have to contact each of your software providers for specific responses.
No software provider will be able to offer customers Google rankings and authorized AdWords data. That is clear.
Raven is making this change because we believe any company providing unauthorized or scraped data will not be in control of its destiny. We would rather innovate better measurements that take advantage of Google keyword data directly from the API and other data that is not scraped.
Why has Raven given up on SEO?
We’re not. SEO is where we started, and it’s an important part of our future. We will continue to focus on every area of SEO that doesn’t involve data scraped from Google or other providers.
What if I have a billing question?
Email support@raventools.com for all billing questions.
Are you going to reduce your prices without rankings?
No. Raven has added dozens of tools and data in the last two years without raising the price. We believe strongly in the value we provide even without ranking data.
Are there any workarounds?
No. We are eliminating SERPs and scraped data from our system.
Why are you siding with Google?
We are committed to digital marketing that includes SEO, social media, content, PPC and analytics. Losing AdWords API access would have ended our ability to provide PPC management and reporting.
So basically you’re choosing PPC over SEO?
We’re choosing all four key parts of the Raven platform. If we lost AdWords API access, we would not have been able to provide PPC management and reporting.
I’ve been using Raven. Will this hurt my site’s rankings?
No. Raven’s decision will not affect your rankings.
What if I really want SERPs?
If you decide that SERPs are critical to your business, you have to find a new SERP vendor. Consider Authority Labs or Advanced Web Rankings.
Will Raven still have the SEMRush keyword tool?
No. We removed all data from SEMRush, including the keyword research tool.
Why did you remove all rankings, including Bing and Yahoo?
First and foremost, to remain in compliance with the AdWords API Terms and Conditions that state our tool must not collect scraped data or use scraped data acquired for another source. Without Google data, we felt the tool would not provide the value that most of our users needed; therefore the entire SERP Tracker tool was removed.
