5 easy ways to grow a social media audience

Navigating the social media sea can be treacherous for small business professionals, especially if you aren’t exactly sure how to steer the ship.

Between blogs, Facebook, Twitter and the countless other social media platforms, you have to know exactly how to catch and keep the attention of your audience. Building a loyal social media audience takes both time and a specific marketing strategy focused on the unique needs of social media users.

You’re ready to pump up your social media marketing efforts, but where to begin? Start with these five key ways to stand out in social media:

  1. Add icons everywhere.
    Links to your social media accounts should appear on every page of your website. Place them in an obvious location on each page. The easiest way to get icons is to search for a free icon set. Once you have the icons, group them together and include links to each of your accounts. This makes it easy for users to connect to you via social media.
  2. Use social sharing buttons.
    Give your users the power to do your marketing for you. If you add social sharing buttons such as the Facebook “Like” button or the Twitter “Tweet” button, you’ll allow readers to share individual posts of yours with their friends and followers. This gives legs to your blog or website and helps grow awareness of your social media presence.
  3. Add links to your email signature.
    Make the most of your social media marketing efforts — always include links to your social media platforms in your email signature or automatic welcome emails. Inviting others to connect on social media platforms through your email makes it easy for users and helps promote your business and blog.
  4. Use CTA on your About page.
    Did you know that the “About” page is usually the most popular page on a blog? Users are interested in learning more about you. While you’ve captured their attention, go ahead and drive them to your other social platforms through a direct call to action. CTA examples include, “Find us on Facebook” or “Connect via Twitter.”
  5. Promote consistently.
    By cross-promoting your website or blog on other social media platforms and vice versa, you’ll make it easy for users to find you on their social media platform of choice. The key is to remain consistent in your efforts; if you add a new blog post, make sure social media icons are visible. If you post on your business Facebook page, link to your blog. It’s all about connecting the dots for users and guiding them to where they can find you. Ease of use not only lures in your audience, it will keep them coming back.
