View, sort and report Google Webmaster Tools data

Raven now offers search queries data, including average position, from Google Webmaster Tools (GWT).

It’s an enhancement that many of our customers have requested, and it’s an excellent — and more accurate — replacement for scraped Google ranking results.

In Raven, we call it Top Searches.

GWT provides information for up to 2,000 search queries (a.k.a. Top Searches) on Google that returned pages from your website.

The average position metric shows the average top position of your site on the search engine results page for that search query.

What data you will see

Once you have authorized Raven to access your GWT account, you will be able to see this information for top searches:

  • Search queries
  • Impressions
  • Clicks
  • Click-through rate
  • Average position

You can sort by any of the columns, choose date ranges and compare changes over time. The tool also includes search and filter functionality for in-depth analysis of specific keywords.

How this data can help

Top Searches data provides valuable campaign insights. You can quickly determine targeted keywords that may rank well but have low impressions or clicks. As a result, you may decide to tweak the page title and description for the related page or choose to remove the keyword from the campaign altogether.

Another way to use this tool is to discover keywords that have a high CTR but low average position. From there you could add those keywords to your campaign and focus on campaign strategies to improve the overall average position.

What branded keywords do

Plus, Raven has a feature not available in GWT: a one-click filter for branded keywords. Toggle among all, branded and non-branded keywords and see the top searches data results for each. The view will update all relevant statistics and charts depending on your choice.

How to run reports

You can report Top Searches data, including average position, as part of a normal or scheduled report. You can also export the data to CSV.

What customers are saying

“Well done, Team Raven. We use real position displays like this all the time. It shows clients the real activity, especially when parsed out daily or weekly. Great work!” — George Bounacos, Silver Beacon Marketing
