How to Start Link Building
Meet Mardy’s Munchies. Husband and wife team Steve and Jana co-own this neighborhood bakery in Los Angeles, which provides fantastic baked goods and offers free delivery to a good chunk of LA.

They’re friends of mine, and they recently asked me for some Internet marketing advice.
Jana: Alison, how can we can spread the word about the bakery?
Me: Well, you should be link building above anything else.
Jana: [crickets]
Me: OK, let me break it down for you…
What is link building?
Link building is the process of acquiring links from other websites. Why would a business want to spend time doing this? There are a few reasons.
First, building up the number of incoming links to a site helps to boost search engine rankings, making it easier for potential customers to find a business when they search online.
Link building also helps businesses grow by word of mouth as we build relationships with people who can write about our business or mention it in social media or other channels. These mentions increase awareness of our brand and let a new audience know about us.

So how does Mardy’s Munchies get started building links? We’ll cover the process from beginning to end, focusing on three major steps: research, outreach and follow-up.
