Social Media 101
One thing that really gets me going in the morning is the potential of web 2.0 and social networking to harness community not only on the web, but offline as well. Social networking, or what we in the office refer to as social media, is rapidly becoming one of the best ways to communicate with your clients and customers in a way that utilizes one of my new favorite terms: conversational marketing. Social media allows you to not speak AT your customer, but gives you the gift of being able to have a conversation with them which not only allows you to get a better feel for their needs regarding your product, but also engages them in becoming lifelong supporters of your brand.
If you’re curious about learning more on social media, a good buddy of mine Kyle Ford gave a great keynote speech at HighEdWeb about social media and how you can utilize it as the technology crawls out of its infancy and into being used as a mainstream marketing tool. While Kyle’s speech skews slightly towards social media in the educational landscape as it relates to Ning specific social networks, he’s got some great information for anyone interested in social on a whole. The video is worth an entire viewing if you are keen to get your feet wet in the world of social media and the almost infinite ways you can use it to benefit you and your brand.
Full disclosure: I am the Alison that Kyle mentions around 43:10 in the video. While I am honored to be mentioned in any formal way, Kyle claims now to not even remember mentioning me in his speech. Feeling the love, for sure.
