How to Install iPhone Firmware 1.1.2 on iTunes

Apple made their iPhone firmware update available to the public before making it available via iTunes. The file itself weighs in at 160MB and can be downloaded here: iPhone Firmware 1.1.2

The only problem has been the lack of information on how to install the giant file. Although many people have linked to the file, a lot people have struggled to figure out how to install it. Fortunately, it’s an easy process.

Step 1: In iTunes, on the iPhone screen, Option+Click the Restore button (for Windows users it’s Shift+Click).

That is not enough information. You need to select one of the multiple files in the firmware directory. Which one?

Ron, if you download it with Safari, it sometimes dumps (unarchives) it into a folder with a bunch of files — that’s no good. You need to keep the original download intact.

Using the download link I provided in this blog entry, you should have one file that has the file name: iPhone1,1_1.1.2_3B48b_Restore.ipsw

If you have anything different, it won’t work. Using the instructions in the blog entry, all you have to do is select the ipsw file.

I think the problem people have is that when it downloads it turns into a zip and they extract it.. After it downloads JUST remove the .zip in the file name and it will ask if you want to use .ipsw and you click yes ( or whatever the option is )

i dont understand how to be sure itunes is going to use the 1.1.2 file on my pc itunes setup. it doent offer me a chance to locate it from the location i put it on my desktop

anyone have an idea about this?

Jeff, did you read step 1 (the only step)? In Windows, I believe you hold down the Shift key and click on Restore. That should give you a window to choose the file with.

Hope you can help. Someone gave me an iPhone that was unlocked and when I first used it with ITunes, it said to Restore. It won’t restore and is locked. I tried to install the file you gave but it did the same thing and gives error 1001 cannot restore.

…hi, I was wondering whether the unbelievably long innstallation time via iTUnes is normal…I mean, after DL etc in iTunes, it’s been rainbow spinning for 20 minutes at least and iTunes is “not responding” according to force quit…(which is normal while processing at times)..

Any confirmation would be greatly appreciated!

yo, I got a problem with my iphone. I accidentaly upgrated my iphone to 1.1.2 version so now is asking me for activation. I downgraded to 1.0.2 activated succesfully but it didn’t have sound. What shoul I do?? pls e-mail me if somebody knows!! my mail: oanceadrn@yahoo.com

my otb 1.1.2 is still locked and needed to be restored. I tried the above way but it says an unknown error occur.

Hi Guys can someone help me with the iphone . I bought an i phone 1.1.2 out of the box and got it unlocked using a turbo sim . Now the phone has got locked again because of me restoring it .since i tunes now has version 1.1.3 i tried to install 1.1.2 ; but after installation the phone goes back to OOB(out of the box )condition it came in which says slide for emergency.It does not upgrade from 1.1.1 to 1.1.2 what needs to be done ? please help if u know something on it .

I get an error (5) message and my oktoprep’d ipod won’t upgrade to 1.1.2.

At one point this ipod touch had gone from 1.1.1 > 1.1.2 >1.1.3 with no problems. Jailbroke in each version. The power went totally dead and it went to restore mode.

I had a hard time getting it back to 1.1.1 but now that I’m there I’m stuck. Tried multiple Macs and a PC. The Macs don’t even see the ipod. The PC sees it but gives and error when the install starts.

The pc has itunes 7.4.x On the Macs I’ve tried using 7.4 and 7.5.

It almost seems like the ipod has been flagged as having been to 1.1.3 and itunes 7.6 and now it won’t go back to 1.1.2 !

i bought a new ipod classic and need to upgrade from 1.0.2 to 1.1.2. when i try to update i get error message saying: ‘the ipod software update server could not be contacted’. i have tried from 2 different connections and get same message. is it something to do with the fact that i am in Paris, France?

I tried this method and it did not work for me. I currently have 1.1.4 and am trying to “downgrade?” to 1.1.2 anyone have any suggestions

I have update my iphone from 1.1.1 to 3.1.3 after updating i can’t open it.it’s shows ONLY EMERGENCY CALL.I change my i tune to 8.2 to find the solution because of some of the answers still I have a big problem,I’m reinstalling doesn’t work.

I did the 4.0 and tried redsn0w 0.9.5b5-5 but when I get to the find the IPSW file redsn0w does not recognize it, so I downloaded a different IPSW and successfully jailbroke my 3G. However, after installing a few apps from Cydia I discovered that none of them work, nor do my factory apps?? so I unjailbroke my 3g and tried to use the same IPSW that worked with redsn0w to update with, no joy so back to the beginning and no jailbreak….
