Feature Friday: Average Rank Overlaid on Analytics Graph
Written by Alison Groves | Posted on July 9th, 2010
While our developers are hard at work finishing up a major new tool – one we plan to release sometime next week – they were still able to release another update to our ongoing Google Analytics and SERP Tracker integration. Today we’ve added one more piece to the puzzle.
Graphing of Average Keyword Rank
Over the past few weeks, we rolled out average ranking on the SERP Tracker and Google Analytics tools. This week we added the average ranking data as a line-graph that overlays on top of the Google Analytics Keyword Referral graph.
When viewing Keyword Referrals in Analytics, you’ll now see color coded line-graphs for each search engine you’re using to track ranking results. You’ll also have the ability to turn each search engine’s line-graph off by unchecking it.

You can filter results by keyword, and the system will recalculate the averages and update the line-graph(s) accordingly.
How to Display Average Rankings
This feature is turned off by default. To start displaying the average ranking line-graphs, follow these steps:
- Go to Analytics
- Click on Keyword
- On the Keyword Referral page, below the graph, click on Display Settings
- Click on the Display Ranking checkbox and then click on the Update button

RIP, Forum
One of the resources in Raven – one we’ve had almost from the beginning – is the forum. We wanted to give our users the ability to connect with each other and exchange ideas. However, it was seldom used, and when it was, it was being used for support issue. For example, if someone was having an issue with the system, instead of submitting a bug report, it was being posted in the forum instead. As the User Experience Manager, it’s my job to ensure that all issues are taken care of as quickly and as efficiently as possible, and that no one falls through the cracks. However, that was occurring, because the majority of users that were posting to the forum, were posting messages that should have gone through our support channel.
Since the forum was being underutilized, and was also creating confusion for customer support, we have decided to remove it from the system. As of today, the forum is no longer available. If you have any questions about this, or simply want to yell at me for removing it, please let me know.
Like I said, we’ve got something big coming next week, so don’t touch that dial.
